JOOUST signs a Memorandum of collaboration (MoC) with Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH). This initiative aims to enhance our nursing program by offering students tailored clinical placements and direct access to critical healthcare environments. JOOTRH agreed to provide access to academic staff and students of JOOUST to the diagnostic, outpatient, inpatient and other activities of JOOTRH for purposes of teaching research and clinical services.

OOUST hosted the 108th STTA Young Change- Makers Inter-University Students Seminar. The seminar-themed “Unlocking the Potential of Blue Tourism to Advance Climate Action” was aimed at awakening the sense of sustainable tourism among students and other participants to train the next frontier of sustainable tourism and hospitality advocates.

The Vice Chancellor Prof. Emily Akuno officially launched the Famfisk Project winter school (FAMFISK), a significant training initiative set to take place at JOOUST from March 10 to March 21, 2025. This program focuses on the Machinery Ring concept, aimed at boosting mechanization and productivity for small-scale farmers. Students will acquire essential skills in machinery design thinking and build networks with stakeholders, addressing the challenges faced by farmers and creating impactful prototypes.

Prof. Elijah Ateka, the DVC (ASAR), welcomed a delegation from the Acholi clan in Uganda, led by retired High Court Judge Hon. Justice Ralph. The delegation also included Dr. Olara Otunnu, former Foreign Minister and Uganda’s ex-Ambassador to the UN. The visit was part of the "Rocho Pacho" initiative, aimed at promoting economic growth within the Acholi community. During the visit, Prof. Ateka emphasized the university’s role in supporting regional integration through its open-door policy, which has facilitated stronger collaborations for community welfare. Dr. Richard Magwanga, Head of Extension, presented the sericulture value chain and other research initiatives at the University, while Prof. Ogone, Director of Corporate Communication and Marketing, underscored the importance of the visit. He also noted that, despite living in different countries, the Acholi and Luo peoples share deep historical and cultural ties.

As part of Corporate Social Responsiblity, the University through the Vice Chancellor Prof. Emily Akuno, officially handed over a project to Miyandhe Community. The Project which commenced on the 5th April 2023 at Banga Beach was constructed on a piece of land donated by Banga Beach Management Unit and construction overseen by JOOUST.
This was done through a donation by the National Government at a cost of Ksh 1,300,000. This symbolises the relationship between JOOUST and the Miyandhe Community strengthened through the completion and operationalization of the JOOUST Blue Economy Institute.
